Does work bring joy?

Crickets are chirping.

The sun is starting to set.
Cars are slowly driving by, and I can hear the sounds of the birds far away.

I drink my coffee in flip-flops, writing on an old Dell netbook that barely runs.
It doesn’t matter to the squirrel with half a tail… he’s got bigger problems with the weather getting colder.

Trying not to go on Slack on my phone, just enjoy the sunset.
ADHD is a pain.
I take a deep breath… and let it out.
– A sip of coffee, it’s warm, sweet, with a hint of cinnamon.

Is anyone going to ever read this? Maybe? If they do, I hope they stop, even for just a minute; to close their eyes - and breathe.

There’s a man who lives next to me; he owns a small motorcycle. He just got home from an evening ride, I hope he was able to find peace on the road.

I miss hearing the leaves rustle and crunch most days. It’s cool, but my flannel is still keeping up with the wind.
Maybe shorts weren’t the best idea, but who cares? I’ll be back inside when I’m done with my coffee.
– Another sip.

I’ve done this before; take a coffee break just long enough to finish it.
Stress is a killer, and I know I don’t manage mine well. Too many things to fix and people to help.
What makes me happy? My wife, my cat, my silly little blog.

Work… nah. When I was 30, it made me fulfilled, but never quite happy. There was always that itch in the back of my brain, “Is that it? Is that all you can build?” Self doubt pushes a person in strange ways.

There’s two types of engineers, those with something to prove to themselves, and those with something to prove to someone else.

Well, that’s a half-lie, for some lucky folks, it really is “just a job”.
– Almost out.

To you, my dear reader, find what really makes you happy, because there will always be more work, always another problem to solve, and another chance to build it better; next time.

Young folks think their job will bring them purpose and meaning. Don’t, don’t, DON’T let your job define your life.

Listen to your heart, it will tell you what makes it sing. 🎶
To the person reading this, I hope you find what REALLY makes you feel joy, even if it IS what you do, to pay your bills.
– Last sip.

I’m out of coffee; my feet are cold, but the sun still has a few more hours of life today. Maybe another cup?
Nah, got code to fix, still so much to do, in that digital world. Black mirror, mirror, on my lap, what do you see…

Always so…
