🤯 Information Overload
Well I’ve been spending alot of time thinking about how I handle bookmarking and posting the things that I find throughout the week. Normally I go through the process of reading a TON of stuff via RSS on my Inoreader, like it’s ALOT of stuff I skim in a given week. On any given day I look over 100-250 RSS posts, it’s ALOT.
As a result my reading list is overwhelming most days. I normally just post the things I am able to quickly read via OpenVibe and the rest go in my Buffer to get auto posted during the week. It’s a nice enough system for sharing the things I care about, personal, but automated.
When I come across something too long to quickly read, I’ll star it in my reader… and yeah, I’ve got about 100 articles to review on any given week, a lot of info to digest. If the article is too long, I’ll toss it in my Instapaper to read later but I still find myself overwhelmed with the amount of stuff I choose to read. I’ve started to try and be more deliberate with what I send to my Instapaper; really only keep it for long form stuff that really makes me think. Even then, I’ve got articles from 2 months ago to still catch up on, not wanting to skim them or toss them at GPT.
Due to the fact that my Buffer is on a free plan, I can only queue 10 articles at a time, which to be fair, is probably a good thing, but it does mean that I have to be more selective about what I queue. After a long week, I’ve realized that I’ve posed anywhere from 20-30 articles via social media. So am I a person or a link aggregator? I guess a bit of both, but I do want to be more deliberate about what I post and share. I guess compared to some folks that post 100+ articles a week, I am a bit more selective, but still, when I see a feed myself that posts more then 2-3 articles a day, I tend to just end up looking at their feed as more of a chore, then a joy. I don’t want to be that person, even if they mean well.
📝 Blogging
To that end, I’m going to TRY and start writing up a blog entry of the things I find interesting each week, and then posting that to my social media accounts. This way I can be more deliberate about what I share, and hopefully make it easier for folks reading my stuff things that interest them. Worst case, it becomes a highlight reel of the things I find interesting, and I can look back on it in a few months and see what I was into at the time. Best case, it becomes a way for me to share my thoughts on the things I find interesting.
Yeah, I’ll still post timely stuff that’s neat like now now, but I really want to focus more on the slow insightful stuff, as I’m hoping it makes the whole info digestion process a bit easier for me, and hopefully for you too.
📚 Reading and Bookmarking
I use Mozilla Sync to manage my bookmarks, but it doesn’t really help with the reading aspect. I do like how it integrates and lets me do bulk actions.
I’ve also been testing out Raindrop.io, which is also pretty neat. But the integration just feels second rate compared to FF Sync.
I’ve also been playing with [Floccus](https://floccus.org/) for doing cross browser bookmark syncing. It does work fairly well, but it does require a desktop to have all the bookmarks sync up, vs FF Sync, which is totally cloud based. That being said I still find myself using Instapaper more often than not, it just feels like a good place to read stuff. Really hats off to those folks for making every website read like a book! It’s ability to track where I left off reading, and the ability to highlight text in articles is also super handy. It has Kindle sync as well, which I really should use more.
But again, the issues is that I want to be able to easily bulk bookmark, read and share articles without having to go through the hassle of managing all those services. For me, at least right now, Mozilla Sync fits the bill for managing a ton of links to share later, with Buffer and/or OpenVibe, for stuff I want to share NOW.
🤔 TL;DR
I have a lot of bookmarks, and I want to be more deliberate about what I read and share. I’m going to TRY to start writing up blog posts of the things I find interesting, and then posting that to my social media accounts.
- Worst case, you get a highlight reel of the things I find interesting
- Best case, it becomes a way for me to share my thoughts on the things I find interesting.

Social media comes and goes, but blog posts (in theory) last forever…ish <3
